SELF LINER NOTES 3rd Album “Someone Who Loves It”
このアルバムは、一般的なビッグバンド録音のように、全員の合奏をそのまま記録した作品ではありません。
それぞれの楽器、セクション、ソロを別々に録音し、さらに五十嵐誠自身によるトランペットとトロンボーンの多重録音を重ね、のべ100時間を超えるレコーディングによって作り上げられました。
アルバム全体のトラック数は1000以上。その膨大な音のレイヤーを重ね合わせることで、各シーンの主人公や背景のフォーカスを調整し、遠近感や立体感をアニメーションのように描いています。
通常のビッグバンド・サウンドが、マジックで描いた実線のように輪郭のはっきりした音だとすれば、この作品では、水彩画のように境界線をあえて曖昧にしたり、淡いパステルカラーのようなサウンドを表現しています。
実際の合奏では再現できない音も多くあります。けれど、作品としてのサウンドは、ここに確かに存在しています。
アルバムには、過去の名曲や名作へのリスペクトを込めたモチーフが随所に登場します。
それを探しながら聴くのも、この作品の楽しみ方のひとつです。
見つけたら、ぜひクスっと笑ってください。
そして、このアルバムに欠かせない存在が、イリヤ・クブシノブ氏によるジャケットイラストです。
制作期間中、五十嵐誠はイリヤ氏の画集から大きなインスピレーションを受け、マスター音源の完成後、「このイラストなしではアルバムは完成しない」という想いから制作を依頼しました。
映像的な語法を持つこのアルバムにとって、イリヤ・クブシノブ氏のイラストは、音楽全体を象徴する存在となっています。
This album is not a conventional big band recording that simply captures a full ensemble performance.
Each instrument, section, and solo was recorded separately, layered together with Makoto Igarashi’s own overdubbed trumpet and trombone sections. The recording process took more than 100 hours, resulting in over 1,000 tracks across the album.
From this vast amount of audio, multiple layers were created and combined to control the focus of each scene — the main character, the background, the sense of distance, and the three-dimensional space — almost like animation.
If a typical big band sound is like a bold line drawn with a marker, this album explores something closer to watercolor: blurred edges, soft colors, and delicate shades of sound.
Many of these sounds cannot be reproduced by a live ensemble in the usual sense.
But as a recorded work, this sound truly exists here.
Throughout the album, you will find many motifs inspired by great works and beloved music from the past.
Finding them is part of the fun.
When you notice one, please smile.
Another essential element of this album is the artwork by Ilya Kuvshinov.
During the writing process, Makoto Igarashi was deeply inspired by Ilya’s art book. After the master recording was completed, he felt that the album could not be complete without Ilya’s illustration.
For an album with such a cinematic musical language, Ilya Kuvshinov’s artwork became the symbol of the entire work.

「楽しくなければビッグバンドではない」をコンセプトに、ジャズ、ポップス、ファンク、ロックなどを横断しながら、ビッグバンドの新しい楽しさを提示しています。

五十嵐 誠
トロンボーン奏者、作編曲家、指揮者、ビッグバンドディレクター。演奏・編曲・指揮・音楽監督、さらにはアンサンブルメーカーの思想設計まで手がける、現場型の総合音楽家。
DREAMS COME TRUE、Superfly など日本を代表するアーティストのサポートミュージシャンとして長年活動し、NHK紅白歌合戦、ミュージックステーションをはじめ、数多くのテレビ番組・ライブ・レコーディングに参加。
トロンボーン奏者としての豊かな音色と安定した演奏力に加え、アンサンブル全体を俯瞰する音楽的視野を持ち、プレイヤー、アレンジャー、ディレクターの各立場から音楽を構築できる稀有な存在。大手男性アイドルグループのドームツアーではオーケストラのコンダクターを務めるなど、大規模公演における指揮・音楽統括の現場経験も持つ。
作編曲家としては、ホーンセクション、ビッグバンド、番組音楽などを中心に幅広く制作。NHK『探検バクモン』の音楽を担当したほか、数々の公演で音楽監督も務める。単に音を並べるのではなく、演奏者の身体性・楽器の特性・アンサンブルの機能性を踏まえた「鳴るスコア」を追求している。
また珍しい口笛奏者として CM レコーディングなどにも参加。トロンボーン、トランペット、ピアノ、指揮、口笛という多彩な表現手段を活かし、ジャンルや編成にとらわれない柔軟な音楽活動を展開している。
地元・石川県での凱旋コンサートは NHK 金沢でも特集され、地域に根ざした活動にも注目が集まった。
ArtistMerge では音楽制作・編曲チームを統括し、GrooveCast の編曲品質を支えつつ、フラッグシップバンド『日比谷 Vibrant City Jazz Orchestra』のミュージックディレクターを務める。さらに編曲アプリ「アンサンブル・メーカー」の思想設計にも参画し、現場の感覚と理論的な構造設計をつなぐ新しい音楽表現の可能性を探求している。

Makoto Igarashi is a trombonist, composer-arranger, conductor, and big band director.
He works across performance, arranging, conducting, music direction, ensemble design, and the conceptual development of music production systems, connecting real-world musical experience with structural musical design.
For many years, he has performed as a supporting musician for some of Japan’s leading artists, including DREAMS COME TRUE and Superfly. He has appeared in numerous television programs, concerts, and recording sessions, including NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen and Music Station.
In addition to his warm trombone sound and reliable performance skills, he has a broad musical perspective that allows him to view the entire ensemble as a whole. He builds music from multiple viewpoints: as a player, arranger, conductor, and director.
As a composer and arranger, he has created a wide range of music, including horn section arrangements, big band works, and music for television programs. He also composed music for NHK’s “Tanken Bakumon” and has served as music director for various performances.
His writing focuses on “scores that truly sound,” taking into account the physicality of performers, the characteristics of each instrument, and the functional balance of the ensemble.
He also works as a whistling performer for commercial recordings and other projects. By combining trombone, trumpet, piano, conducting, and whistling, he continues to develop flexible musical activities beyond the boundaries of genre and ensemble style.
At ArtistMerge, he oversees music production and arranging, supporting the arranging quality of GrooveCast. He also serves as Music Director of the flagship band Hibiya Vibrant City Jazz Orchestra.
In addition, he is involved in the conceptual design of the arranging app Ensemble Maker, exploring new possibilities for musical expression by connecting practical musical experience with theoretical structural design.

これは、ただのビッグバンド録音ではありません。
各楽器、セクション、ソロを別々に録音し、1000を超えるトラックを重ね合わせて作り上げた、録音作品としてのビッグバンド・アルバムです。

ジャズ、ポップス、ファンクなどを横断しながら、イガバンBBらしい「楽しいビッグバンド」の世界を広げています。

Although the music has no lyrics, its melodies feel almost like songs, brought to life through the colorful and powerful sound of a big band.
